I've had it. I realize I have made the grave error of applying to jobs that started quickly, when I should have been applying to jobs that started five months from now. I go over old job ads and realize that I said "I don't wan't to wait until April, I want to be there in February"...and here I am, not realizing my dream.
So anyway, I'm still looking for a Job in Japan, FIVE months or so from now. In the meantime, who will take a volunteer anywhere? I mean it, ANYWHERE. Cambodia, Liberia, North Korea, Ethiopia, you name it, I said anywhere. I just want to be a teacher already. I just don't want to have to pay to volunteer.
If you can help me, I'd appreciate it. I am this close to signing myself off to the first Korean recruiter who tells me the prettiest lies.
Thank you very much,
KarenMarie |

Was your message so important that you had to post it five times ?
Are you in a hurry or something ? |

Hi KarenMarie,
This is just a suggestion, and I'm not sure if it applies to you but VSO is an organization that takes volunteers, and as far as I know you're not required (please correct me if I'm wrong on this someone?) to raise a huge amount of money for it. They recruit professionals in various fields to help developments in (mainly third world) countries. It's similiary to the Peace Corps. I'm planning on joining VSO Canada once I get my Teaching degree and two years of experience. The placements are for 2 yrs though - they help defer loans, they pay for virtually all of your expenses and help you get back on your feet when you go back home, you're well taken care of there. It might be worth looking into - just a suggestion if you're interested at all; another option for you just in case. You didn't mention your nationality in your post, but they operate out of Canada, the UK, and I think the Netherlands (?) - they also take US volunteers.
If you're Canadian:

http://www.vsocanada.ca/default.aspx
Or, if you're in the UK:
http://www.vso.org.uk/
Regardless of what you choose I hope things work out for you and you're able to find a volunteer program that suits you best!
Cheers,
Laura |
