|

My question is just that: What countries, beside the land of morning calm, require an FBI background check, just as a matter of course? Not particular companies or schools, but the country? Any...?
Not trying to beat a dead horse - just trying to distill the kernels of info I really need, as I need 'em! Thanks in advance! |

Not just a country issue but a visa class issue (as well as employer issue).
If you want LEGAL work (proper visa, permits, etc) then the LISTED (not necessarily enforced) requirements for a visa as a teacher that include a CBC as a requirement (in east/southeast Asia) include visas for:
Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Brunei.
Key word there however is ENFORCED.
If you apply for a visa to work in China while you are in the states you will need to produce it and be denied if there is anything positive.
IF you apply for a visa to work in China from the office in Hong Kong then they won't ask for one.
In Korea you can get an E7 as a teacher but not an E2 as an "English" teacher.
Same for Thailand (you can skate by with an out of state CBC that would be clean) and at many consulates they don't ask for it.
Same for Vietnam.
etc.....

But this requirement could change; countries that previously didn't require a CBC could do so at any point in the future. |

Does China really ask for a CBC if you apply outside of China or HK? |

They do from the north American consulates.
Don't know about the consulates in the UK, Aus or NZ.

I've worked in Indonesia on and off since 2004 and have never been asked for a police check. Neither has anyone (not just teachers) that I know ever been asked for one. |
