I have to make a 5 - 10 minute teaching demo based on a class for studying for TOEFL writing. Does anyone have any recommendations for suitable activities that would fit within that kind of timeframe? |

I think in a 10 minute demo, I would say I'd like to demonstrate what I would do in the first introductory lesson for students :
What is the aim of TOEFL writing ? (Elicit : this section measures your ability to communicate in an academic environment)
How many tasks are there ? (Two)
What do you do for Task 1 ? (Integrated writing task -read/listen/write)
You could play listening - approx 2 minutes.
What is Task 2? (Independent writing- Writing from Experience and Knowledge)
What is the suggested length of an effective essay? (minimum 300 words)
Show your future employers(?) that you are totally familiar with the exam and want students also be totally aware of the criteria too....many are not.
Say you would then move on to the most important skill of paraphrasing as test takers get a zero if they copy words from the reading passage.
