Hi,
I'm deciding to take a TEFL course next month and with the research I've done the last week I see that TEFL courses are abundant, but they seem to lack quality control given how many private companies are able to produce them with no regulation.
The course I'm looking at is from Boston Academy of English and they list that they are ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training) accredited and that the accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education so that there is at least a standard for teaching the course (what is that standard? I do not know)
I'm posting this here because I would eventually like to work in Hong Kong and was wondering if being accredited would give it some weight or edge over non accredited courses whether it be in Hong Kong or another country that requires a certification?
Here is the ACCET directory to look up the schools that they accredit:
http://www.accet.org/directory
Boston Academy of English is listed under Avocational and it doesn't seem like they accredit many TEFL courses, but do accredit Intensive English and language learning centers.
I'm hoping for responses from hiring managers or people with experience with accredited courses. Also would like to know where you think this question would receive a better answer if not this one, whether it be a forum, website, or a person that I can contact. |
