Hello all,

I have been following this forum for awhile but this is my first post! I am planning to move to Mexico in August or so to complete my TEFL certification and teach for awhile--I am interested in pursuing a MATESL back here in the US within the next several years, assuming that I enjoy TEFL once I actually experience it.

I have been planning to relocate to Guadalajara, but with the State Department's most recent warning, I dont want to put all my eggs in one basket. While I acknowledge that there are many viewpoints on the safety situation, I'm researching some alternative locations and will make my final decision in the coming months. Heres my question:

I have seen a few references on this forum and others about TEFL at UNAM/CELE in el DF. However, I am having a difficult time finding specific information on their website. Can anyone provide further information regarding this program? Im interested in dates, fees, housing info, etc. or even a specific contact that I could be in touch with.

Other details: I have a BA in Spanish and Latin American Studies, and have visited Mexico a few times, including my study abroad in Cuernavaca back in 2007. I have enough savings to use during my transition and to supplement my income. I do not hold any illusions of getting rich and living large while in Mexico. I have a strong affinity for Mexico and its culture, have had diverse experiences in teaching and working with kids and adults, and am very passionate about direct, hands-on service. As mentioned above, Im considering post-grad education in TEFL in the future, but for now Id like to take advantage of the opportunity to live and work abroad for a year or two.

I appreciate the feedback and I look forward to your responses!

Thanks!
Bailey

It's not the most user friendly page, is it?

Go to http://www.cele.unam.mx/

Hover over Docencia then choose Formacin de Profesores from the menu that shows up.

It appears to only start once a year and last two semesters. Here is last year's Convocatoria.
