				EDIT:

I came back here to say that while I had problems at this school, I have it on good authority that they have made a lot of significant and positive changes to the place, and it's now a good place to work. I think the management in Almaty should be commended for making a real effort to improve things there.

Astana is a pretty cool place too, although it may not be for everyone.

Thanks. It's okay though. It happens a lot in this field, I guess. At least I got to see another part of the world, learn some stuff and all that.

...And does the phrase white bear: unfiltered mean anything to you? |

				| Do you mean 'светлое пиво нефильтрованное'? As in unfiltered lager beer? |

				| Yeah, it's to do with beer... I thought I might know who you are, but I don't, so never mind. |

Unfiltered Beer - It has to do with the brewing process. Unfiltered beer is more hoppy and heavier. It's definately got more "kick" as after having a few liters last night made for a fun evening... |

Just wanted to add, I know the OP and everything he said is 100% legit. However, since that time a lot of the problems he mentioned have been solved; there's a new accommodation manager, and I haven't heard anyone complain about their places; actually most of us love them.

There have also been changes in academic management, as well as a raise in salary. There are now five foreign teachers, and all of us have either agreed to return in Sept, or are seriously considering doing so. |

White bear unfiltered is almost certainly a reference to белый медведь, one of the cheaper brands of beer in these parts |

I'm working at the Interpress in Almaty and while I've had a few issues here (detailed on another thread) the accommo hasn't been one of them, I was surprised how good it was to be honest. Here it looks like there'll be a considerable turnover of teachers in the autumn as most of the natives I know are planning to move on, though many of them had only planned to be a year here so that's no surprise. |
