Hello,
I am currently working full time as a preschool teacher in Canada and am hoping to be teaching overseas in September. Hong Kong recently came onto my radar and I am quite keen to get a job there.
My qualifications are as follows:
A Bachelor of Education (Primary students) from the University of Ottawa
A Bachelor of Arts from U of O
A TEFL certificate from Oxford Seminars (seems to be useless, actually)
Specialty in Teaching English to Children from Oxford seminars.
5 years teaching preschool
14 months teaching ESL in Korea
1 year teaching grade 3 in Belize
I have been perusing the forums here and it seems to me that I may have missed the window for getting a NET Scheme job for September, but are there other venues I could search for?
Thanks so much for any help you can give!
Oh, I also have a friend who is interested in coming with me, she has a BA and an MA and her CELTA, as well as university teaching experience and Preschool teaching experience...
Thanks! |

Thanks, I've already been to the SCMP page and applied to a lot of jobs I found there, but they seem to be mostly what I've seen people on this forum refer to as "language mills". Is there a way to find out how to apply to more 'reputable' schools directly? (I'm a little late to the game for using NetScheme for the 2012/2013 school year).
Thanks! |

You must be looking at the wrong page as all I see are uni jobs and proper school jobs....try again - there are 6 pages of new jobs today alone. |

Really? Cause I was just on there... Am I somehow 'looking wrong' or something? I'm going to the classifieds post and when "Browse Jobs" comes up, I click on Function, pick Education/Library and aside from the uni jobs (which I am not interested in), I saw a lot of kindergarten jobs (which I believe is code for language mill -- I've applied to them, I've applied to everything)... is there another place to look? |

now you've ruled out uni jobs it does narrow it down somewhat...however, there are still a few NET jobs there, from today alone, so you'll just have to trawl back through the pages to find the other NET jobs....they are there and there are quite a few.....Kindergarten doesn't always mean language mill...not at all, but in my book kindergartens are actually higher than hell on my list of places not to visit..I still have recurring nightmares of my time as a kindergarten teacher. |
