|
|
Hi,
I am thinking of a 6 month trip to China and funding it by teaching.
The two places I have in mind are Shanghai and Hainan island.
How are the work prospects in these places?
Shanghai I imagine to be a lot easier but I like the sound of the island more, is it possible to work there (Haiku?)
How easy is it to pick up work for this fairly short time period?
Could it be done on a tourist visa?
What documents do you need to get Z visa?
Do you need Celta, degree, both?
by the way, I am currently teaching English in Cambodia so would go to the Chinese embassy there.
thanks.. |

I worked in Hainan from 2006 - 2008, and I dont really rate it too much TBH. I found it to be quite a dull place, and over-rated in terms of being a desirable holiday destination. Haikou is awfully dull IMO.
Jobs do exist, but weren't a plenty when I was there. I have a friend who still works in a kindy in Haikou now...and I dont really know how much its changed...it wasnt exactly a hot spot for lanuage schools and the like though.
Working on a tourist visa is always sketchy. Hainan did used to be far more relaxed that other provinces, and working on F visa was common, and changing tourist visa to working visa whilst there was also common. My non-degreed, less than 6 months teaching experience friend has his Z visa RP processed in 2008 after arriving on a tourist visa.
NB - Just because this happened in 2008 has little to no bearing on what may or will happen now. |

ok, thanks for the info.
how about just turning up in Shanghai with Celta, no degree and a tourist visa - could that work?
do you need a degree to get the work permit? |

Your chances of working in Shanghai with no degree or celta are pretty slim. Might be better for you to look at Gansu province if you have no qualifications. |
