I have two job interviews @ one university (for 2 different jobs). Both are nice but I prefer one job over the other. One interview is finished and it looks good while another is about to start. What happens with two? What happens if both departments try to process my application? I don't want to jeopardize one but I wish to compare the offers. Won't these applications gradually end up in HR and what then?

What would you suggest I do?

(1) Admit to the fact that I'm pursuing both jobs;
(2) Continue not mentioning to the left hand what the right is doing AND later accept the better offer;
(3) Other ideas?

Dear Imdramayu.

I'd go with Number 2. In Saudi, the left hand seldom, if ever, knows (or cares) what the right hand is doing.

Regards,
John

Not to mention, that in Saudi, it's the left hand that gets the "axe"!

It's been written! (John! For the life of me, I don't know HOW you missed that one! Wink )

Dear It's Scary,

Nothing sinister - it's just that I'm left-handed Very Happy.

The left hand is the KAK-hand. Kak of course is one of the Indo-european roots fro the wored that describes the brown stuff that you wipe off with your left hand.

At first, this sounded like $hite! But the more I drank, the more sense it made.

Work with me here now:

KAK sounds like "cake" to me. "Brown stuff" sounds like the chocolate I like to have on my cake...O.K., "KAK".

If I understand Scot correctly, I'm supposed to wipe the chocolate off of my cake (KAK, if you will) with my left hand!

I plan to try this at my next KAK-wiping session and will report with the results.

It's a mission NOT for the faint of heart!

Never done that in my life Wink

I don't go along with this don't use your left hand nonsense. And I don't mind telling Arabs that. If you're not using your left hand, you're not using the left side of your brain ... which kind of explains a lot in these parts.

Dear posh,

Slight neuroscience correction:

"The right side of the brain controls muscles on the left side of the body and the left side of the brain controls muscles on the right side of the body."

WHich, of course, is why we left-handers are the only ones in our right minds. Very Happy

John

This thread has been nothing if not enlightening. Rolling Eyes

I wonder what happened with our OP? How did you decide to handle the two interviews?

Well; V, VS, & others; I had the interview for the 2nd job four days after the interviews for the 1st job ended. The 1st job had three interviews (1: are you a normal person?; 2: technical; 3: HR called) but only one interview for the 2nd job. Both jobs, though, have required a long (10-window/page) online form to be completed and countless documents to be scanned and emailed.

I like both but they would both be stretching my skills (i.e., using my transferable skills in another role).

But...haven't heard back from either one since the flurry of emailing and online-form-filling-out last week.

I still plan to pop by Dubai for TESOL Arabia to see what's cooking. Can't put all my eggs in one basket! Who else is going?

Thanks for the update. I'd say it is good to stretch your skills and try new things, and I am sure you will agree. As for the rest of it: be patient: a lot of places, Arab places especially, fade out for a bit, and then suddenly contact you all set for action. However, you are wise to continue shopping around. They may never contact you again, and we'll never know, but perhaps that may be for the best. Good luck to you, buddy.

That's the one, John! Neuroscience was always my downfall.
