So there is a chance I might not be able to go back to Korea in April and China might be an option for me.

1) Do schools pay for airfare?

2) Who are some of the best recruiters for China (Shenzhen & Guangzhou).

3) I want to pick up alot of work and make as much as possible. What is the best way to go about this. ie Which jobs will I need to get and how would I need to structure my day?

Thanks in advance for the info!

The search facility doesn't seem to be working but if you can spot it there is a thread on Job Offer Checklist.
Most public sector jobs - unis and colleges refund or pay an airfare allowance - usually around 10000RMB. This is rarely paid upfront and is only for the completion of a full year.
A uni/college job gives you accom and at least some utilities. If you can get 14 to 18 class contact hours pw in a subject ie Oral English that doesn't have much marking then you're clear to do outside work.
Private work will usually be frowned upon by the school or even prohibited.
If you can organise your 14 to 16 hours over Monday to Thurs you will have 3 days for privates or language school classes.
Language schools are more common in the centre of town so make sure your uni job isn't in the far away suburbs. If it is your private work may entail a lengthy commute. Guangzhou has a nice subway though.
I've noticed a trend for the older unis to quit downtown areas, make a killing on the real estate and move to a development area.
I'll pm you on recruiter issue.

My University gave me a written letter with the university stamp to say that my extra work was allowed. My contract actually stated that such work was allowed if approved by the university foreign affairs office. This is not to say that its standard in contracts. Most of the other teachers i know in universities in xian don't have such a clause, but some do.

Its worth checking out when looking at contracts.

Mu university classes are Monday & Wednesday to Friday. I have the full 16 hours for oral and another 1.5 for business english. So 17.5 hours Uni work. I still manage to get in another 2-3 hours of Private work each weekday and more on weekends if I want it.

I'm not really disagreeing with Non Sequitur... just to say that with Uni work you can work as much as you want. I find Uni Oral classes a doddle and rarely feel so tired that I can't face some private classes later. Its worth noting though that I only teach adults. I refuse any kids privates, which makes things easier for me.

All good points Cormac.
One uni I worked in 2004 prohibited outside work yet directed friends to me for assistance. Immigration preparation interviews were a particular fave - Canada especially.
Like you, tearing around town on weekends to rack up extra cash palls after a while. I'd rather do my housekeeping for an hour then another hour or so on the lesson plans and off downtown for a quiet lunch/brew with other FTs.
Gee it's tough at the top!
Best

10K??? Really??? I've been seeing mostly 8K these days, if not lower Sad (my last place didn't specify an amount for 'reimbursement', so if I really wanted to p*ss them off, I could have come up with a 13K tRMB ticket Very Happy

Most unis should provide some sort of accommodation allowance.. just hope it's not only enough for something nice, but that something nice is nearby!

My uni actually only gives 7k for 'airfare' but it's basically a cash bonus. I get half at the beginning of the year and half when I return for the second semester. I don't have to buy an air ticket at all if I don't want to, they just hand me the cash.

Uni last year paid up to 12k for airfare but you actually had to provide a receipt, and if your flight cost 11k they would only give you 11k. I chose a flight through Dubai which had a 24 hour layover on the way there and on the way back, which cost 13k, so I paid 1k to get a 2 day trip to Dubai, not too bad IMO.

a good plan for guangzhou

1) get a job on the university island, 10 universities, support services, maybe 200,000 students living in 1 area

2) this job ideally pays 8000+ but maybe settle for a little less at first. The job requires 16 hours a week or less, allowing ample free time

3) use that free time to tutor. There are many private schools on the island, or just run some ads on free websites - you WILL find students - 200 an hour is reasonable, 150 = the bare bones
