I'm driving into Dubai for the TESOL Arabia conference @ Dubai Women's College with the family. What places are there to drop them off during the day (Thurs & Fri) so keep them happy? A big mall, kid fun place, or nice touristy place.

Well it depends on what you want to do and how you want to do it and where you are coming from.

If you are coming in from AD, you could always stop/park at the Mall of the Emirates and catch a taxi to DWC. Leave the car and the family at MOE and meet up with them. (it is a huge place, they could do ski dubai, watch a movie at the theatre, etc)

Or you could drive in a little further and do the same thing but at the Dubai Mall, which is bigger and has a few more things to do. The dubai aquarium, the ice skating rink, the movie theatre, sega republic and (depending on the age of the kids) there is Kidzania. You could always drop the family off or park the car and take a taxi (then you don't have to worry about getting lost around DWC)

They could also have a sight seeing trip. Park at one of the malls, and let them use the Metro to travel around Dubai to see the sights.

I'm sure there are dozens of other options too. The real question for you and the family is... how long will you be at TESOL arabia each day? Because if you are only going for 4 to 6 hours, it is possible for the family to do stuff... but the longer you are there, the longer they have to play/goof around... and there is nothing more annoying than having to kill a few extra hours, when you are "malled" out.

If you are coming from Abu Dhabi, come the route past Jumeriah and drop them off on Jumeriah Beach Rd wherever - there's a bus along there - and beach. Wild Wadi and zoo and Jumeriah Beach Park as well as malls.
DWC is on the way to Sharjah so they could drop YOU off and continue on to Sharjah and do museums etc.
