Wow, I feel like I'm a noob all over again with my recent rash of questions.... I guess that's what happens when you change jobs and get into unknown territory.
Anyhow, all other things aside, (so far my Jr. High school teaching experience has been overall very positive and I've been receiving some good feedback from both students and teachers alike) so I must be doing something right... I hope...
Well, the question of the day is: special needs kids. What to do with them? I have a class of 3 mentally challenged students, in grades 7, 8, and 9, respectively. I'm at a bit of a loss at how (and what) to teach them... Their levels vary -- the 9th grader is very talkative (in Japanese AND English) -- he will gladly tell me he likes SMAP and Morning Musume -- what Japanese artists do I like? .... The eighth grader is a girl, who will repeat everything you say faithfully -- too faithfully... If you ask her a question, rather than answering, she will repeat the question (even when asked in Japanese). The seventh grader is very, very quiet. The Japanese teacher was very surprised that I got him talking at all -- he said he didn't know his alphabet, but much to our collective surprise, he was able to recognize and say all the capital letters... Go figure.
Anyway, can anyone (perhaps someone who has done something similar recommend some activities/lessons I can do with these kids -- them being very low level, and standard materials that I would normally use are likely to be too difficult)..
(BTW.... All three sort-of know their colors, days of the week, numbers from 1 to 20, months, body parts)...
Thanks again everyone!
