In the KSA, are there any universities/training centers that are revered by other universities/training centers--that having worked there would give you a leg up anywhere else in the KSA/UAE?
...I'm assuming these are also the same ones that pay the most and/or hire competitively?
Curious about your thoughts |

The Gulf.......seriously the least rewarding classroom time but the most lucrative positions around. 7 out of 10 classes will stupefy you.
The lack of knowledge here and the general desire to remain ignorant are just pathetic. I pity the minority who are inquisitive and academically ambitious but admire their achievements.
Mickey Mouse exams, passing everyone, self-deception, Draconian morons making decisions...the list is endless. This is partly because the nationals in charge are incompetent and authoritarian but partly because contractors bend over and ask 'How deep?' when the client ruffles his or her feathers. It doesn't matter how wrong the client is either.
Take Gulf Arabs out of the classroom and they are really nice people.....it's weird.
If you can work in the Gulf, you can put up with anything. |

My sense is that it's more about the needs of the potential employer as well as the candidate's qualifications versus where he/she has taught. However, listing a language mill school such as Berlitz on one's CV/resume is certain to raise an eyebrow---and not in a good way. |

Well, sharter, I wonder if that is so vastly different to Korea at large wih the unmotivated low-achievers and skewed grade bell curves that predominate at tertiary level... And talk about a blinkered existence for the masses.
Love to hear others thoughts. |

Keep in mind that you will need exit visas to leave Saudi Arabia. Employers are not obligated to give them to you when or if you ask, even for family emergencies, health or otherwise.
Since you have children, another thing to check on carefully is health care.

I suspect that if she ever arrives in the Gulf, she will remember her Korean students as real academics by the end of the first year...

Agreed. I'm a much more patient person now, after less than a year of working in the Gulf. It really does test how much nonsense you are able to put up with. |

I wonder too. I haven't yet got to the Gulf, but after nearly 4 years on a small island of Korea, in school attended by sons of farmers and fishermen, it is hard to imagine how English speaking ability can be lower than 'Howareyoufinethankyouandyou". When they banned beating, 'motivation' and behaviour dropped through the floor. How bad can the Gulf be? |
