I recently started the process of applying for an EFL position at Cleverlearn in Vung Tau. Does anyone have any observations on the pluses and minuses of either the organization or the city? Does their claim of using "the latest technology" stand up to inspection? (White boards and LCD projectors are my idea of critical new teaching technology.)
From what I can tell from my little research, Vung Tau sounds rather small and sleepy (except for beach vacationers, which doesn't strike me as intolerable. I'm a middle-aged man who does not partake in loud, nightlife activities. I am considering whether doing my first year of teaching abroad in such a place might be preferable to being immersed in the maelstrom of excitement I imagine many of the major cities would likely provide many distractions, both wanted and unwanted. |

You should be able to find lots on these issues already on the boards. My feeling is guys our age may prefer to be in a location like VT, compared to HCMC. I also understand there is plenty of the distractions there (or just about anywhere in VN), but the thing about HCMC is you do not have the village pressure thing, so your distractions are more likely able to distract you without interference. In smaller areas, everybody knows what is going on and so you cannot always achieve all the same level of fun and games in those scenarios.
Others can comment on CL VT, some of those franchises are better than others, I have no scoop on that one. It has been discussed, if you seek, you will find. |
