how much do you guys pay for tax (the tax directly deducted from the paycheck)?
i will be coming to japan to work soon
i have asked around but they all have different answers
my employer says it's gonna be around 7%, is that true?
the salary is around 260,000 to 290,000yen/month (probably on the lower end)
some sites say it's 10%, some even say 20%, and my employer says it's gonna be around 7%... so i am really confused...
so, for those of you already working in japan, how much do you get deducted from your paycheck due to taxes, assuming that we are all earning roughly the same (the 250,000 to 290,000 range)?

It can vary depending on salary and visa type. Working holiday visa holders get taxed 20%. As for the rest of us, 7-10% is the norm.

As Glenski said, it all depends. If a company does your tax return for you they adjust the monthly amount to roughly match what you should pay, in total, for the year. There's a second tax (resident's tax) that some companies take out of your salary and some don't.
If your company doesn't do your taxes for you then they follow the following table:
