I was just thinking the other day how much I like and respect some of the posters and contributors on Dave's...
In no particular order, these are the people I'd love to buy a drink for, and have a chat down the pub with ...
JohnSlat: was here, was gone, then, oh joy, came back. I thought you'd gone off hiking somewhere remote, and like that guy in the film, had come to a sticky end. I read all your posts, and am very pleased to see your occasionally terse but frequently witty posts.
Denise: don't see much of you these days, but you're always spot on (imo) on reasonable expectations for an ELT career, and how to get there.
Spiral78: my fellow European. Not much to add - we're singing from the same hymn sheet!
Fluffy hamster: Am in awe of your linguistics knowledge. Would not get in a fight with you - know my limits!
Sharter / Scot47 / NomadSoul / Guy Courchesne / BasiltheRat / PC Parrot / Perilla / ttompatz / Glenski / Coledavis / Moore (and probably a ton more whose names I have temporarily forgotten - sorry!) I love to read your posts. From the cynical to the optimistic, with a hefty dose of realism to temper it all, you tell it as it is.
Seriously, I wonder what it would be like if we all got together down the pub. Fisticuffs or good company?? |

Maybe we should schedule a get-together. Somewhere. I could suggest a couple of very pleasant venues!! Unfortunately I can't offer to buy flight tickets for everyone (haven't won that lottery we have been discussing yet!). |

Hmm... It would probably feel like an online dating experience: meeting each other face-to-face for the first time after months/years of posting our most inner thoughts and feelings on the forum. At first, there'd be some awkwardness because we're finally able to put a face to those posted comments. (I look nothing like my avatar, BTW.) Then, things start to click and we begin to feel as if we've known each other for years...
Spiral, keep playin' that lottery! |

I'll bring my avatar to the party. Thus, you'll all easily recognise me! |

Hm. Russia, England, or somewhere in between. Thanks for the mention! |

Naturegirl - thanks so much
Also a personal thanks to those already mentioned, and probably several smaller-time contributers who have helped me in so many ways. I can't thank you enough!
Oh, and of course, Dave - Cheers, guys! |

Dear Teacher in Rome,
What a very thoughtful and gallant post. Actually, I DID go hiking in the wilderness, but that poor grizzly, gee, I hope he recovered. I'd write more, but I have a reputation for terseness to uphold.
Am I a wit? Well, let's say you're half right.
Regards,
John |

Dear Spiral
Thanks for that, but unfortunately I'll have to decline. Once you've joined the Communist Party, no other will ever compare again. I mean endless vodka, caviar, parades of stunning Komsomolki. And as if that weren't enough, Hegel-reading marathons, with the winners being sent on a two-week holiday to Siberia!
If any of you decadent bourgeois wage-slaves wish to experience a life of true freedom, then you are invited to join MY party.

How lovely! Thank you for the kind words!
I don't log on much these days. I've returned to the US & try not to linger on my former country forums--there's a new generation now!
Several years ago, there was talk of organizing a gathering somewhere. I don't know if it ever happened. I imagine it would have been a good 10,000 miles away from wherever I was at the time.
If anyone ends up in or near Oregon (and it seems that eventually everyone does somehow), I'm always up for a nice glass of something! Plenty of vineyards here, tasting rooms, gorgeous scenery...
