|
|
Hi, I currently work in Seoul and it's quite easy to find jobs as an English teacher at various companies here.
Basically you come in for a hour or two (usually in the morning) at the xyz company and teach a class to a group or sometimes one on one.
Does a similar set-up take place in Hong Kong?
Is it easy to get these jobs?
Are there any good companies or websites that can place you with these jobs?
Is it a challenge to have your main visa sponsor allow you to take on extra work?
Cheers |

Depending on what job you think you are going to get in HK as and when you come, I think you'll find that if you are a teacher, you'll be up and in to school way too early to start doing corporate of a morning....I used to do them in Seoul too and made some nice cash doing it, but as I haven't pursued it here I couldn't honestly give advice on how to go about it....but I do know that it is now 7.15am and I am at my desk at school...
After school privates in and around where you live? Now that's a different ball game.... |

Due to the density of the residential areas here, it is easy to make up some flyers at home and then post them in the banks of letterboxes at the bottom of each block. Costs next to nothing to do, saves on any agency fees and also means you won't have to step outside to go to class - you'll simply be going up or down in the elevator. |

No, these jobs don't exist in HK in the way that they do in Seoul. I'm not saying it's impossible to find such work, but it's not like in Korea where it almost seems to be expected as a start to the working day for big corps. The main reason (I imagine) being that most HK execs will already have fairly decent English.
It's also technically illegal to do work outside of your regular contract unless you get special permission, though I imagine this rule is commonly flouted. |

Thanks for the great advice.
What's the standard rate of charge? 350-450 hkd/hour? |
