Can anyone with previous experience help work this out?
I'd like to know what you calculate as the final monthly salary.
Informed opinions would be much appreciated. I also have the Arabic version but my friend says its equally ambiguous or unclear.
It's a preliminary offer. Is it competitive?
I think it's better than entry level from what I've seen and been offered elsewhere if I've worked it out correctly.
I have 13, and will have 14, full-time verifiable years of tertiary esl teaching experience since my masters ( is that 'last promotion'?) when I start in KSA:
- Basic salary: 7250 SR (Monthly)
- 450 SR added to monthly salary for each year of academic experience after last promotion
- Exceptional allowance: 100% from (1) & (2) above (the basic salary and academic experience (Monthly))
- Transportation allowance: 600 SR (Monthly).
- Housing allowance: 25000 SR per year
- One time payment equals (50%) of your Accommodation allowance for furniture (if you work in the Saudi kingdom for the first time).
- Education allowance for your Children ( 6000 SR for each child and up to 25000 to all (up to four child))
- Round trip Flight Ticket for you and your Spouse and two of your Children from KSA to your Country of Origin
- Annual vacation for 60 days
- Access to free Available governmental health services
(plus another 20-30 days paid holidays for mid-term and religious holidays.)
Do you think the 'exceptional allowance' doubles the total figure?
The education allowance will largely cover the costs of the private British school my children will attend. I think schooling in the bigger cities is much more expensive.
Accomodation may be available for close to that figure but not on a compound obviously. |

In a preliminary offer, the actual salary would be indicated based on the verified experience you submitted. This just shows the basic salary less the TEFL experience. But roughly, the calculated monthly salary would be 450 SAR times 13 or 14 (years), added to the 7250 SAR. I get a total of 13100 - 13550 SAR, which is lousy for someone with 13 years of related experience. BTW, what city is this for?

But doesn't Exceptional allowance imply that it's what you said times 2? |

I don't know what an "exceptional allowance" is, which is why you need to get the final calculated salary from the employer---the actual, written prelim job offer. Otherwise, you're just guessing and could be way off on your calculations. In fact, when I calculated my own salary, it came out to be about 2000 SAR less than what my employer offered because I hadn't factored in my verified, non-TEFL experience. |

Dear rainbowprof,
Never heard of the phrase before - but the fact that it's "exceptional" might lead one to believe that it's rarely (if ever) "allowed."
You definitely want to try to find out just what's meant by that.
Regards,
John |

I'm waiting for this:
"Next, our Vice President will issue the official offer letter and visa number that you need to obtain your work visa for Saudi Arabia."
That's when I make an educated assessment of the big move. I'll want to at least double what I currently get to convince me its worthwhile as I'll be getting less time off. |
