I am just North of Bangkok. I have a non B visa that expires June 30 and I need to report on May 1. I am currently looking for work and no longer working for the same employer that I got the non B with. I think I need to get another 60 day tourist visa. If so, where is the best place to go where I don't need to show transportation in and out of Thailand.
Thanks, |

You can't get another non B visa with your work permit before it expires? Look at the immigration website get thier address in Bangkok (it's right of off Silom road) and visit them or get thier phone # and call them.
The cheapest and best place for a tourist visa is Vientienne Laos. You can get a double entry visa for 2000 Baht. You'll need to bring American dollars for the Laos Visa which you can get right at the border pretty quickly. If not American dollars then pay more for the Lao Visa in Thai Baht. Make sure the bills are in good shape, preferably not folded in any way.
Take the bus to Nong Khai which is right on the border with Laos. At the Nong Khai bus terminal take the Freedom Bus to the border. The bus goes all the way to Vientienne but will leave without you when you have to wait for the visa, but no problem. When you have the final Laos stamp in your passport you should be able to get a Song Tow to the Thai embassy in Vientienne for 100 baht, you might have to pay 200 baht, just look around at the immigration area where they pick people up for Vientienne, you might even be able to find a bus that will take you there.
Avoid the people that lead you around and belong to the cost signs that are posted at the embassy(they wear blue suits). You have to reach the Thai embassy before 12 am when the intake for visas is scheduled. Therefore you have to reach Nong Khai early in the morning unless you don't mind spending an extra night in Vientienne or Nong Khae. Pick up your visa the next day after 1:00 PM. You should be in the line that forms no later than 12:00. If you have no passport photos, you can have them done right at the little kiosks outside the Thai embassy. You won't need photos for the Lao Visa.
There is an ongoing scam in Nong Khai. Do not get off the bus before the Nong Khai bus terminal (which looks like a typical bus terminal in Thailand) to take a Tuk Tuk. They will take you to a garage kiosk which will "help" you with your visa for a fee. It's a total scam you don't need it and the people there lie to you about the transportation that goes along with thier fee, there will be extra costs. In the event that you do take a Tuk Tuk in Nong Khai make sure it goes directly to the border, if not tell the driver this is not where you wanted to go and go to the border, he will do it. The border doesn't look like a garage it looks like a fairly sizeable border with immigration offices and stations.
If you can't take a bus to Nong Khai, take one to Udon Thani. Sometimes the buses take you directly to another bus headed to Nong Khai (which costs like 35 Baht or so). Sometimes they don't and take you to a bus station in Udon Thani. If that is the case you will need to take a tuk tuk (80 Baht, easily done for that price) to the location where the Nong Khai buses are.
After 3 tourist visas, the Vientienne embassy becomes a pain in the ass and starts telling you they won't give you anymore tourist visas although you will at least get another visa after the warning.

Somebody else should know this because I don't. I think you will get a response here telling you if you wait long enough. If you don't get a response just call immi. |
