Hey guys, I'm looking to work in a summer camp between July-Aug. this year anywhere in Spain. I haven't done this before so I'm a little tentative about signing up to any old job. Your pearls of wisdom are needed. I'd like any/all information you may have about great previous experiences/awful companies to work for/any resources to check in terms of finding a good summer camp position.

Thanks in advance

adamadamada,

You have to realize that this is a very subjective question because talking to any two people who have worked at a summer camp, even in the same conditions, one will say that they liked it while the other will say that they hated it. It depends on what you are looking for in a summer camp, Please be more specific in your question.

What type of work conditions are you looking for? How many hours do you expect to work? Do you want to have free time? I know that you have said that you have never done this before, but these are question to ponder, rather than asking for previous experiences from people. By answering these questions, I think that more people will be able to help you.

Take a look at madridteacher because FORENEX is a summer camp that's hiring and see what they have to say about their work conditions.

Good luck,

Shawn

From experience, I'd say (a) love being with kids; (b) enjoy doing a lot of hard work; (c) have loved Boy Scout camp (or similiar) and (d) get on well living in close contact with other people.

Otherwise, don't apply, as otherwise ANY camp is going to be a nightmare for you.

For kids, it's a holiday. For teachers and monitors, it's very hard work.

Oh, and (e) don't bothering working out your rate of pay per hour you commit to a camp.

0.90c...? That sounds a bit high, but as I say I wouldn't want to work it out Very Happy

Should add that I actually loved the experience. I put a LOT into the camps I went on, and got back a corresponding amount.

I included the contract completion bonus in that. Laughing

Yeah, in all seriousness, it's not really about the financial rewards (nobody would do a Spanish or Italian summer camp for the money alone - unless they were desperate). They can be very interesting and enjoyable and you certainly don't have time to get bored.
