I have the so-called "work visit visa" stamped in my passport but the firm I have been hired by are messing me about before I have even left my home country.

What I would like to know is, can I back out of working for said firm but still use the visa to travel to KSA if I am subsequently hired by a different firm?

It's definitely not something to do. They can get you arrested and I am not sure that the new employer would like someone like that on board.

Ask for a cancellation of the visa formally, and then apply again for a new visa.

Showed me an itinerary with layover of a few hours in Istanbul and asked me if it was OK. I agreed. Then they sent me e-ticket with 22 hour layover instead.

They then feigned ignorance and instructed me to follow up with the airline. It turns out that it is the cheapest possible booking for that particular route.

When I asked them to change it, they say it can't be done from their end. When I speak with the airline, they tell me a different story. I have discovered that to change the ticket would cost $300 - $600. They could obtain a full refund and book a new itinerary but this would cost $200 more.

I have asked them to just provide me with a hotel room ...

And that's beside the fact that the long layover results in my losing about $150 in wages.

The original second leg of the flight was cancelled by the airline, who altered their schedule. However, according to an airline representative, the schedule was changed BEFORE the booking was made but after the original itinerary was reserved.

So it could be just incompetence but the fact that it was the cheapest ticket going leads me to believe there was malfeasance at work.

That was the general idea, yes.

You have been warned in hundreds (nearly) of threads now by dozens of posters. So why are you surprised that you are getting "jerked around"? It goes with the territory.

As desert traveller pointed out, starting over with a new employer will just start the same or possibly worse problems. They will ALWAYS provide only the cheapest possible flight. You choose to take it or pay to change it. This is just the way it is with these bottom level employers that you will be dealing with...

Either accept it and pay... either to change the ticket or spend the day in Istanbul (a great place BTW if you have never been there - tons to see) or just forget Saudi Arabia. This is a minor issue in the whole scheme of things. If you can't deal with this, what will you do when you encounter real problems?

1) I don't have any money.
2) It's more a question of decency - would they like to spend 24 hours in an airport with no proper place to sleep?
3) They asked me to approve an itinerary only to then issue me with a different one. This is retarded in itself.

Those were my initial thoughts. But then I thought that if I don't put my foot down, won't they continue to take liberties?

It seems that some people get jerked around more than others.

I am probably playing it wrong as I am not being very patient. I don't know the culture and I am in a bad mood at the moment.

This is your introduction to how things will be. They set the rules.

Seriously... this is small potatoes in relation to what else they may do... if you can't live with it, don't go.

If you just got a gig in Saudi, you will soon have all kinds of spending money. Get a loan or a credit card or something, book a hotel in Istanbul, and enjoy yourself.

Are you suggesting I bend over?
