Hi,
I am currently teaching at a private k-12 school and am without a place to live given the cascade of tourists coming here to Istanbul.
I have not been able to find a hostel because all of them are booked and will have to go back to the airport to get some rest. I have only two months left before I'm set to leave Turkey and cannot sign a year lease on a flat.
Where would be the best place for me to stay during my last two months here, without competing with the tourists? The hostel thing is getting old.
Cheers |

Hi Clifton, sorry to hear about your predicament. Could you contact language schools who might have a spare room to rent you? Possibly some postgrad students might have a spare room and are advertising on the internet. Have you tried hostel rooms at universities? The British YHA has an agreement with other countries to subsidies rooms. What about teachers houses for a room, ogretmen evi (excuse poor Turkish I think). |

clifton10,
This sounds a mess. As you are teaching at a private school, could you not enlist the help of the school management to help you out temporarily?
Turks are famous for their hospitality, and I'm sure somebody would rent you a room or a sofa at least. You cannot be expected to do a good teaching job if you are crashing out at the airport ! |

You might find some available rooms at:
www.hostelz.com
or
www.airbnb.com
The later site has individuals willing to rent for longer terms (up to several months).
I hope one of those helps. We stayed at Hush Hostel Kadikoy and they might not be as busy as some of the other hostels in town.
Good luck! |

Hi folks,
Thanks for the info and will check to see if Hush has a bed. I will also ask the school about ogretmen evi. I didn't know that dorm rooms exists on uni campuses. I should do a web search. Cheers |
