Hi,
I am a 24 year old Canadian female with a B.Sc., B.Ed and I just finished the CELTA last week. I also have 2 years esl teaching experience overseas. I would like to get a job teaching EFL in KSA, but I have no idea where to begin. And I need to find a job there as soon as possible due to circumstances at home.
Can ANYONE please point me in the direction of schools that are hiring there?
Or provide me with the name of a reputable recruiter that can help me?
I am so scared of getting scammed, my family is depending on me to land a decent job in KSA. Thank you very much in advance for any advice you can provide! |

Hi
I'm sure with your credentials that you will find something. There are jobs advertised for Saudi Arabia on this website. Also try tefl.com, eslbase.com, teachsaudi.com and esljobfeed.com.
Good luck! |

Ok, I held off for a bit because I haven't taught in Saudi (only Saudis outside of the KSA).
But I have to say, since no-one else has, yet - this sounds like a very likely recipe for disaster and troubles.
If I'm not mistaken, the better jobs in KSA are for related MA holders who have at least two years experience after the MA. Lesser quals are apparently sometimes accepted these days, but with generally lower standards of employer and conditions.
I would not be so sure that you're qualified for a 'decent' job, if that means 'lucrative.' Even worse, things move pretty slowly in terms of getting hired, getting paperwork lined up, and getting started - it can require significant patience to get through the preliminaries. If there is financial time pressure, this could be very difficult.
Why KSA? If you really need a lucrative job with your credentials in a relatively short period of time, why not aim for some part of Asia, where teachers are in great demand, the salaries and benefits are quite ok, and it's a bit easier to get in to start with?? |

Spiral78 is correct, the process of applying and getting into KSA is long and ardous; if you have to get a job to support people back home you may find yourself in a situation that actually runs contrary to what you hope to achieve. Plus if you end up with a lousy recruiter or a dodgey employer, you may also be in worse trouble. Avoid recruiters and try to apply direct, if possible. Only you can make the final decision.
The two places that I know of are IPA (Insitute of Public Administration) which is out because you need an MA, but you may be eligible for PSU (Prince Sultan University). Both IPA and PSU have women's campuses and both are located in Riyadh. You should be able to find more info on their website. Even if you are inelligable, it may be helpful to look at the websites.
If your objective is to get a job ASAP, then you should not limit yourself to just KSA. To ensure more responses apply to places in Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Korea, Taiwan, Japan.
These places I would think also allow a decent amount of savings.
When I did my first job search after my ESL training back in 1997, end of April, I sent out over 300 application letters to places all over the world. I only got a few responses from Korea, I wasn't all that keen on Korea, so kept holding out. by the end of August, I got a last minute call from a college in the UAE. I did not know at the time that it was a bottom feeder place, and did not save much, but it did get me some Middle Eastern experience, and eventually moved up the pay scale over the years and into more reputable places.
I am afraid there is no instant fix, and if you're desperate to find work, you may get yourself into a bad situation by taking the first thing offered you. Do your research, take your time. |

Borrowed from another thread:
"I received a job offer with a 'reputable' recruitment company back in dec and I'm still waiting for them to apply for my visa through the embassy. At the time of the interview I was informed that I would be in Saudi within 2 weeks. I recently received an email from the company stating that they're gearing me up for the next semester in September (as if to suggest that I have been patiently waiting to commence in September) please don't believe everything you're told via these lousy incompetent employers, do your own research and always ask around!"
And that's not at all unusual; in fact, it's par for the course.
Regards,
John |

You begin by thoroughly researching within this forum and on other Internet sites what it's like to live and work in the Kingdom. Know before you go! KSA is not the kind of country you just come to, especially if you're very young, female, and have minimal TEFL experience and qualifications. Plus, I believe there's a minimum age requirement of 27 for female workers (visa eligibility) and that the length of time for obtaining a visa is longer for Canadians than it is for other nationalities. And then there's the issue of what type of visa you'd get... But frankly, as other posters have advised, don't focus on Saudi Arabia; look elsewhere in the world for decent-paying, less stressful teaching opportunities. |

KSA seems to have pros and cons like so many places, and fair saving potential, but a job like this seems lucrative, too. It looks like you are a certified teacher- is that right?
