Follwing his recent sensational and exhausting performances....in the tabloids..is anyone utilising the much publicised exploits of Dagenhams finest export since the Mk III Cortina in their classroom.
DB has provided us all with much to discuss in our conversation target lessons.
Fidelity.monogomy, mobile phone useage, forgiveness, hairstyles, family values,Posh Spices' weight, loneliness, Madrid vs London, Sarah Marbeck vs Rebecca Loos, improper use for publicity purposes of a quad bike......the list goes on...and on ...and on!
I have generated hours of heated debate in the last week or so...it's worked really well with a couple of exceptions...like the fight that broke out on Tuesday, the tearful storming out of several students and the cancellation of my private contract teaching the local Mullah's 7 year old daughter!
Is anyone out there in TEFL land a DB user too?? |

Surprisingly enough, most non-UK persons don't give a rat's behind about the Beckhams. |

Caper,
If it gets the students talking all teachers should be interested!
Mind you, you'd have to read the comic newspapers to know what is going on as it certainly isn't in the broadsheets that I read. |

All my kids care about are his soccer scores and games. They could give a rodent's behind about his personal life and quite frankly, I would not relish explaining why what he is doing is wrong. Some people in China have some wierd ideas about marriage and fidelity as it is, so I don't think that what he is doing would offend some of my kids/parents. |

Did that inarticulate person take anything into his brain, reportedly located in his foot, when he was at school?
He must have done, because he has written a book, innit? |

I go with Capergirl. Most of the world have more important things to think and talk about.
Leave this sh*** in the tabloids where it belongs ! |

I second Abulbul who seconds Capergirl. Tabloid fodder. Sadly, it made the CBC the other nite; they tried to take a high tone; eg "look at what the silly London tabloids are wating their paper on now"--but of course they showed footage of the Other Woman and mentioned how much she got paid for her revelations. They are all just a bunch of overpaid overdressed overcoiffed wannabe glamour-mongers--even Beckham. I noticed his wife is standing by him, looking very wifely and adoring in the photo ops. I wonder what his life is like at home these days? I be he's catching some flak off her.
Er, yes, as I said--ahem----let's leave this in the tabloids.... |

Becks is a footballing genius and is making more of his life in 5 mins than any of you 'oh so superior' EFL teachers do in a lifetime.
don't make me laugh..you think you are all so superior cos you read the broadsheets and can teach the past perfect.!!
get a life ...or better still get a proper job......in your own country too..instead of doing locals outta jobs in whatever country you are in!
you don't care about Becks....oh ,so you only read 'proper ' news stories do you!!!! HA HA HA...what a bunch of boring gets...i bet you're all a right barrell load of laughs down the pub....or is drinking and socialising in such places so totally beneath you?
If you're a guy..then you are jealous of Becks!!
If you're a gal..you're jealous of the bevvy of beauties that love him to bits!!!

I love you too.
David Beckham ended up on the English national team because he can play soccer really well. I'll give him that much.
But his popularity in Asia is soley because of his Aryan features.
During (and after) the world cup, I never met one of his adoring fans who could quote me one stat, remember a single (pre-world cup final) play, or give any good reason beyond the blond hair and the blue eyes why they liked him.
Actually, the only people who knew Beckham as a football player that I knew - EFLers from the UK I worked with - didn't think that highly of him. This is one reason why.
That tidbit, plus his marriage to a Spice Girl, gave him a celebrity that was not earned by talent.
Given the amount of over exosure of Beckham I've been subject to, I think I'll give him a miss as part of my syllabus. After all, he's supposed to be famous as a football player, and I don't teach football. |
