I was wondering what the normal standard is for vacation/holiday leave for ESL teachers in Istanbul? Is there any paid leave granted, or is it all unpaid? Are teachers even allowed to take a leave, let's say for a week, during the academic year?

One month's leave is standard. But I think the law says an employee is only entitled to paid leave once they have completed one whole year of service. However, decent employers do not stick to the legal minimum. Places that offer contracts of less than one year concern me because they seem to be trying to shirk the normal reponsibilities of an employer.
