Hey there,
Could anyone who has recently worked at JIC shed light on the management, the teaching load, the salary and accommodation?
Also, one factor which is creating doubt about accepting a job in Jubail is the industrial pollution and the effects it can have on your health.
I will be having an interview with them shortly.
Please keep to the topic and I'd appreciate facts rather than opinions |

Hi DenUK,
who are you working for at JIC, is it a direct hire, or through a recruiter? I'm currently in Jubail, and have spent a bit of time in JIC. I know the guys who work for a recruiter there, but i dont know any of the direct hire guys at all.
One thing i can answer now, is yes Jubail in one of the most polluted places i have ever been to. there are dozens of burn-off towers that dot the horizon, as one of the other teachers said at night it looks a lot like Blade Runner. Pretty much everyday there is a different smell in the air, depending what they are cooking up, ive found ive come to recognise several distinct ones. Although it must be said i haven't been ill once, and neither have any of my colleagues. It does also depend on where you live.
There are two distinct parts of Jubail. Al Jubail and Jubail industrial city. Al Jubail is the poor part of town (this is where we live) there is rubbish in all the vacant lots, and filth that is hard to describe, also this area tends to get all the fumes from the towers blown over it. Whereas Jubail Industrial City is new, clean and built to model an american waterfront. there are beaches, and parks where families picnic at the weekend. There is also a long promenade that has restaurants and those sorts of things dotted along it. they are two very different places, i would find out where you will be housed, because if pollution bothers you (and im sure it would wear down the most hardened KSA ESL teacher after a few months) this should be a major consideration for you.
I hope that helped with half or your question! |

Re. pollution. The locals will tell you that winds almost never blow from the south - that's why they are all living north of the city and the Asians south of it in the Jubail ghetto.
Don't work at JIC but have known plenty there. Salary around 15k on average, 20 hours per week, dreary teaching and/or babysitting. Good holidays, clean studio apartments in decent areas - nice part of town. Or, you can take 3 months salary and go it alone. |
