Shebab,

I spent almost two years in Colombia and never truly felt threatened... well, maybe once or twice. But, I do feel that westerners can blend in a bit better in South America than the Middle East. There are a number of white Colombians, which makes it easier to blend in. Plus, Colombians dress more like gringos than Saudis (at least from the pictures I've seen).

Yes it is a reality that in Colombia anyone can be a target, but the odds go up when you work for a multinational company, are rich, or tell anyone that you approve of Plan Colombia or GW.

Actually, I felt like more of a target in Salvador, Brazil than I ever did in Colombia. Regardless, I'm heading to Saudi, so I'll see what I think when I get there. I like the idea of dressing to fit in, the thobs look especially comfortable!
