My boss gave me the daunting task of finding a Chinese-Canadian who speaks English and Chinese (Mandarin not Cantonese) very well.
Here is the problem:
I don't know where to start or how to go about looking for such a person. Do I just send Dave a cheque and then post an ad? Or...??
Someone who has done this before please help me out.

why don't you try contacting the English Language Schools here in major Canadian cities? I'm in Calgary and there are schools here in our little "Chinatown" that certainly must harbor some Chinese-Canadians, and I'm sure you would find many of them in Vancouver!! I don't have any specific contact for you, but you could search English Language Schools in either/both city. |

Pray tell, what do you plan to do with this person when you find him/her?
If I were you, I would start my search in Vancouver. There are plenty of them over here! |

Ask them if they want a decent job, decent housing, with a decent salary of course! |

Why exactly do you need a Chinese Canadian? I'm actually a Chinese Canadian who speaks Cantonese and Manadrin. |

Before you start your search, you need to know what he's prepared to pay. Someone with a good Canadian job could want over 500,000 RMB per year. Someone wanting the experience might work for 10% of that |

I'm actually looking into teaching English and would totally like to help you out depending on what the deal is. I was born in Canada and hold both a US passport and a Canadian passport and would very much like to know what this is about!!
My Cantonese is better than my Mandarin, but I most definitely WILL not die if thrown in a country where they only speak Mandarin. Let me know! |

Well, we are looking for someone that can teach English, speak English fluently as a native speaker, and has a command of Mandarin so they can explain why we say some of the things that we do.
For example:
Try explaining "my goldfish kicked the bucket" to Chinese students.
I get told "Teacher! Fish can't kick!"
Too many more examples to mention. Also, teaching our culture is an important step. But not only teaching it, but also explaining why we do what we do. |

Great Wall,
Can you give me more info? Is this position located in China and is there a specific reason as to why your boss is looking for a Canadian Chinese? This looks like something I may be interested in. |

Yes, if you like I could e-mail you. I think it would be better than using this forum.

Well, American-Chinese, Canadian-Chinese, British-Chinese, it doesn't matter. As long as the individual speaks English fluently and has a basic command of Mandarin.
As for ethnicity, it really doesn't matter. We would like to have Dashan*, but he is a pretty busy at this time.

Do you know how to use the private message feature on this board?
*Dashan is a white Canadian dude who speaks kicker Chinese |
