Hi, for some reason I cannot seem to post this in the Korea Job Related Forum so apologies for that.
From 2006-2009 I worked in South Korea teaching children. In my final year I found myself in a tricky situation. I was hired by two hagwons at once and submitted all relevant paperwork to both of them right at the start. I had my E2 Visa in my passport and also got the approval to work at the second hagwon (stamped in my passport). However there was a 2 month delay between starting the job and getting this extra approval. Towards the end of my contract my boss told me I had to go to the police as I had 'broken the rules'. I did get my final pay and bonus btw. I was told that I would have to wait for two years before I could legally work in the country again due to my 'crime'. The fact was that the hagwon simply didn't put the paperwork through despite having all documents at the start. Since then I applied to work there and my E2 visa was declined on two separate passports. However I am in the lucky position of having three English speaking passports and intend to try again next year. However I have heard of people trying 10 years later and still being declined entry. Does anyone have any information or experience of this kind of situation? What are my chances of ever getting back in? |

That's because separate registration is required for the Korean job discussion forums. Go to http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/profile.php?mode=register |

But to answer before the thread is locked...
With an immigration violation (dealt with at the office level with a fine) you may eventually be allowed to apply for an E2 but you will also need a consular interview in your home country every time (no visa runs to Japan).
IF it actually went to tribunal or court you are never going to get back. Under the current rules (no record on a CBC is the requirement) you may not be allowed even though the 2 years has passed.
If, heaven forbid, you had persona non-grata placed into your file you will never get a work visa.

Thanks for the reply Tom. I simply paid a fine, it didn't go to court/tribunal etc. Oh well, fingers crossed for next time. |
