What is typically implied by a contract term in which the school says it will provide the "conveniences of life", without spelling out what they have in mind? |

i'd guess it means your apartment will be furnished with
basic furniture, some appliances, and some cooking gear.
it will mean something else to the school. better to ask
them. |

It implies they will provide everything needed to make yout life comfortable, but it really means absolutely nothing. It's like saying, "We'll pay you a good salary", but they won't say how much.

All the conveniences of a Chinese life.
A squat toilet and a rice cooker
Better to ask the school than us. |

To me, it means a late-model Honda Accord, a 60" flat panel TV, a real bed, and a nearby convenience store. To the Chinese? God knows. You can bet that it means that they'll give you the least they can and the cheapest. |

Only way to know is to ask them for clarification. I agree with others; it's whatever they wish it to be. |

It means nothing... except for what you end up fighting tooth and nail for.
Vague is how people get out of doing/giving things.
I've never had that put into a contract (where it meant anything - I took the living allowance option, and lived off campus).
