Hi -

I am in Merida now.
I moved here for many reasons - circumstances.
Im well aware of forums covered on how hard it is to find a job in Merida.

My question is this.
My life is a little more under control now.
My immigration paperwork going good for teaching.
my question...

Are there ESL teaching jobs open and available to some extent for people who just got their BA and CTESOL certificate?
Im to the point i really do need a job.
Are there jobs in the DF that are decent and that really hire you?
Some jobs in Merida have been playing with hiring me for about 1.5 months.
I just want to work.

Please - Im only asking about ESL jobs in the DF.
How is the francise school thing in the DF?
How is harmon hall in the df?
any info would be appriciated.
im looking to live in the center of the city verses outside the center of town.

thank you!

Sorry if this sounds like too simple a question but are you checking the existing threads on DF and the job situation? Already some info around. I'd look through some of the slightly older threads and see what people were saying and ask about the current situation....just a thought.

It ismore than likely they are pulling your chain when they are promising you work, particularly if the school is TTT or Mayab. Both are nortorious for that and what they are doing which is unscrupulous and creepy is that they are promising you in the even that their enrollment jumps astronomically suddenly and they are in need of additional teachers. This rarely happens but on the infrequent occasion it has they have been caught flatfooted and so they safeguard against that eventuality. By promising you work in a tentative manner, never outright, but with such loaded questions as to "What hours would you be available for next semester" they give the appearance that they are ready to hire you and you make less of an effort to look for work, making you all the more available and desperate should they have work for you.
It is very misleading and unless they make a concrete offer and tellyou when to come to teacher orientation or begin the first day of class or give you a textbook, don`t assume they are on the up and up.
It is not only those two schools that do this so beware and take it with a grain of salt. Merida is not the greatest land of opportunity for teaching.

This probably won't make you feel any better but unfortunately, I've seen this game myself in another part of Mexico.

In a big market like say DF there may be some legitimacy to it due to a bigger market, more flex in it etc...If I hear this in a smallish size city there stands a good chance it's a story told for the convenience and position of the owner. They keep you on the hook while you slowly bleed out.
