Hello everyone,

I'm cannot seem to find any solid, current advice specifically on private language schools in Izmir. I received an offer from English Time, but after reading all the terrible reviews, turned it down. I have an interview with British Culture today, and have applied to American Culture, Wall Street Institute, and Just English. Someone who had taught in Turkey (not Izmir) said that English Time is better than all the other schools. Does anyone have personal experience with any of these schools? Thanks!

The best advice I could give you would be to just go visit all the languages schools in Izmir and decide which one you wish to work for. English Time has a very high turnover of teachers as does Wall Street Institute. All these language schools pay about the same....USD 1,000/Month + subsidized accomodation. Good luck in your search! Smile

The English Academy has always been one of the best schools in Izmir. Very professional and nice bunch of people there - I would try there if I were you!

I can say that I applied to the English Academy about two months ago, and as of then they weren't looking for teachers.

I was in Izmir for almost six months. I applied to every school I could find except ET and failed to find more than part time work. Shortly before I left I finally applied to ET, but they took a month to get back to me and by that point I had left Izmir.

I will also say that the time to look for jobs in Izmir is August-September, and several schools explicitly told me that they only hire full time in that period (or sometimes slightly earlier, but employment doesn't start until the fall). If I don't find anything great elsewhere in Turkey I may go back then.

I wish you luck, if only because it would mean there's some hope.

Regards,
~Q
