There was a new ad posted on Dave's by Globalink, has anyone heard of them before?
Do you know which university they are recruiting for? |

Go direct hire. Only go through a sleazeball contractor if you are TRULY desperate. |

Why did you call them " a sleazeball contractor" do you know anything specific about them or you mean all contractors in general?
Well when I applied directly I was treated as a local and the salary was much lower than others recruited from back home.
Also when I tried in some universities to apply directly they still referred me to their recruitment agencies.
Only one university tried to hire me directly without a " middle man" involved, and as I said their offer was pretty low.
So does anyone know the university that globalink is recruiting for? |

I know nothing about this recruiter nor what employer they're working for. Why not just email them or apply for the position to get that info.
My advice is to not get so focused on the pay to where you end up signing a deal with the devil. You're here on an iqama via your hubby, and as I recall from one of your other posts, he's getting some good benefits through his employer. That adds a layer of protection. But if you plan to be in Riyadh for a few years, then find a teaching situation that's low on drama, even if that means mediocre pay. (The salary won't be all that great anyway since you're a local hire and don't have an MA.) After each successive year, your pay will most likely increase. But as long as you say 'no' to direct hire offers, those opportunities will dry up and you're not likely to be reconsidered for future positions. |

Thankx nomad, you give good advice.
I have not refused any offers yet. I was still trying to find another direct hire situation that offered better pay.
The reason I asked about globalink is that I am guessing they are recruting for one of the universities that has given me an extremely low offer but it's the closest to my living quarters. I wanted to negotiate with that university to raise the offer since globalinks is offering a minimum of 3000k which is much less than I was offered.
Do you think it wise to negotiate? |
