Uh.... Is there such a thing? I'm currently looking for a job anywhere in the world for a couple of months - I guess covering for people who left early... The only problem is that every school seems to want a contract of at least 4 months!!! I'd be willing to start as soon as I could get flights, but obviously thats a problem as far as the money thang is concerned...
Anybody got any suggestions? Am I just looking at the wrong sites? |

Can you specify how short you want the term to be? When are you looking to start?
A number of schools have summer camps that last anywhere between 1 or 3 months starting july...you can look into that!
it is also possible to "volunteer" with some oraganizations for a couple of months and get a generous allowance + lodging and other benefits... this is for China, I am not sure as to other places!
It all depends on where you want to go! |

Thanks!!! My plan is to spend 1 or 2 months teaching (anywhere) before I do a summer school contract in England. The only problem is that people recruiting now want longer term contracts!!! I want to start pretty much as soon as I can get a flight, and I'm really not fussy about where I go. I wanted to go to China, but hey "que sera....."
Do you have any more information about those "volunteering" posts?? How do I go about getting one of them??

There are essentially two ways to work for a TEFL school: either with a nice and legal contract, or under the table. It costs a school a lot of money to bring you in and do all the paperwork, so a school is usually unwilling to do that unless it's for a long term.
The only contracts I've seen for less than 6 months are summer schools - but maybe someone out there knows of shorter.
There are places where you can fly in and find 'piece-meal' work. You won't get paid a lot or have any job security, but you will get to travel somewhere new and add a little bit of experience to your resume. |

I have a friend in Cambodia who does this. Big Brian--works for ACE. Hi Brian, you old coot.
He is an experienced teacher trainer, flies in here and there (Libya, Oman, etc) for a few weeks, does his thing, and returns to Cambodia. Every time he gets back, he sighs and says, "God, I love this country."
cambodia. try it and see. |
