So I obtained a verbal agreement from a school that I was offered a job for Fall, but then no contract because I am awaiting the confirmation from the school administration and then the visa. There is some talk of a possibility that the visa won't be able to be obtained by the Fall semester start. (It's out of their control). Is this the same situation for most universities in Saudi? I've been waiting for about a month for some sort of confirmation and it's uncertain when it will come. What should one consider normal in terms of waiting?

It took two months after they received my signed contract for the university to send me my visa application number.

Hi folks,

I have been offered a job with a university (direct hire) two weeks ago. The recruitment consultant said that he will request a visa block number for me. However, I havent heard anything from him ever then. I have sent him an email last week, but no reply from him.

Heaton, was there communication between you and the university in the time you were waiting for your visa number? I dont mind waiting, but why dont they update me about the process?

They didn't have anything to say during those two months because, presumably, they were just waiting for the guvermint byerokrasee to do its thing...

Trust me...I know...The process is a long one... most of which is spent hurrying up and waiting....not to be too concerned as this is just how most Saudis operate...now with the month of Ramadan approaching you can expect nothing to happen until after the month is over.
relax, enjoy your freedom(summer) because you will soon wake up in KSA shaking your head wondering what happened... Laughing
You can send e-mails till the cows come home, which will probably just annoy them for filling up their in box...best be patient...

It's their song and dance. Don't resist or they will persist!

hmm...waiting and just having faith that the visa is going to come through-eventually. Why do I feel like my cultural adjustment has just begun.

The one thing I"m wondering is if some schools (not talking about recruiters) make it happen faster because of connections...for example, KAU?

Dear vamanos12,

Ba bukra, mumkin, inshallah.

A phrase you'll probably hear a lot when you get there.

(the day after tomorrow - but, in actuality, SOMETIME in the future - maybe, if Allah wills it.)

Yup, your "cultural adjustment has begun.

Be sure to pack plenty of patience and a sense of humor Very Happy

Regards,
John

yeah...I lived in taught in Costa Rica for 5 years and came very accustomed to "Si dios quiere"- (If God wants) and all that this implies so at least I'm partially trained.

Dear vamanos12,

I found Saudi to be an excellent preparation for living in New Mexico, where the bumper stickers proclaim:

You're waiting for a visa? Spare a thought for these guys: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jun/29/syria-turkey-border-arms-defectors

The report doesn't mention nationalities who delivered the weapons but after all the bluster you can hazard a guess Shocked
