I'm flying to Korea for a summer camp and then on to China after, and I'm having a tough time finding an airline that will let me bring 2 20kg bags and a carry on without charging an arm and a leg. Does anyone know of an airline with more liberal baggage policies?

I don't know about the airlines, but you could get an overnight ferry from Korea to Qingdao.

Just a thought

I should have said where I was traveling to/from. I'll be going from Busan to Xi'an, so I would probably still have to take a plane at some point.

Korean Airlines made exceptions for me with a desktop computer, letting me carry it on the plane. However, if your luggage is already in Korea, I would just ship it. Cheap, takes about 2-4 weeks, and very reliable. I've shipped probably 8 boxes and never had any problems.

And I know you probably don't want to hear this, but you really won't need that much luggage in China.

Edit: Sorry, misread your post. From the US (not sure about other countries), airlines are stricter and you will probably have to pay a lot extra, and shipping is also far more expensive and less reliable. Just try to pack less, I guess Sad

I flew China Eastern Airlines from Seoul to Shanghai earlier in the year with 42kg of checked on baggage, (including a bass guitar) plus about 12kg of carry on, and they didn't charge anything extra.
Not to say it's a consistent policy. More likely than not I was just lucky on an underbooked flight.
Generally the customer service in Korea is quite good also, and they tend to bend over backwards to help you. However were you to transit in say Shanghai you're likely going to have to transfer to a domestic flight, and while the Koreans might go easy on you, in all likeliness the Chinese are going to charge.

Coming to China with too much baggage?

A lot of foreigners are like that in the Middle Kingdom.

Welcome!

Sadly, I'm mostly bringing clothes, so If I can avoid packing less I would prefer it. But maybe I could have my parents ship things from the US? I would assume shipping would be cheaper from Korea, but I could be wrong.
