Here's mine for the actual language teaching aspect:
The art of putting words in people's mouths using progressively indirect means.

I'm sure this thread will generate many derogatory def's from a language mill's perspective or from that of school admin where academics is not the main concern but unless you feel the need to vent, could we avoid that?

Interesting question.

I'm not convinced about your definition. I am both a teacher and student - I have been learning French in classrooms/community for years (and on Saturday, my first Skype lesson!). It's 6am so I will come back and expand on my answer later, but I do wonder if being in China (rather than Canada, where I am) helps "guide" your definition. I know in some EFL cultures, teachers are expected to "transmit" their knowledge to students - this is certainly not an approach used here. The current buzzword in North America is to facilitate the student's own motivations and methods to learn.

But good topic Smile

Many ways. Depends on the students I am teaching and waht they want to learn or need to learn. Not all of it is about speking sometimes it is reading too and some of my students are almost native level anyway. Cool
