I have a few questions regarding this offer:
1. Is it realistic/believable that this public HS is offering to pay 7500RMB/month for "less than 16 teaching hours a week"? I just find it too rosy. Free housing and one-way airfare are provided on top of salary.
2. What are peoples' opinions on teaching 13-17yo Chinese students?
3. Has anyone had experience with this specific high school in Tongliao?
I'm going to do a skype interview with them soon; I will get clarifications on these questions then but I also wanted to get English teachers' perspectives, since I assume it will be different from the Chinese contact's.
There was a whole lot of jargon in their advertisement; the school is a part of the East & West International Education (EWIE) foundation which participates in the International scholastic Aptitude Program (ISAP) that "works with the top HS around China." The usual glorifying BS, I suppose. |

My first job in China was teaching at a high school in Anhui.
9,000RMB a month, 8,000 for round trip airfare, free apartment.
High schools in less desirable cities sometimes pay more just to attract somebody/anybody to work there.
Chinese students age 13 to 17 in many ways are similar to Western kids age 8 to 12, IMO.
A blog written by an FT that worked at that school 2003 to 2004:

Find out about the city conditions.
Find out about the housing.
Find out about the commute if any between work/home. |
