| do you guys ever try to get bonuses from your bosses for helping them fill positions? if so, how much do you ask for? i assume this price varies from place to place, so maybe it would be best to measure it in proportion to a typical month's pay before over time. (ex., half a month's pay.) |

My understanding is that Chinese recruiters collect a finders fee equal to one months salary of the position filled.
But, I have heard that foreigners typically can manage to only collect a 1,000 RMB finders fee.
You might approach your boss with a "I have heard that finders fees for filling a position are equal to one months salary, is that true ? "

Another way of looking at it is in relation to how much actual work you put into such a task.
I get 500RMB per head hired, but all I do is skype interviews with the candidates (typically lasting thirty minutes to an hour) and send off an email with my thoughts about whether they are suitable or not.
That is pretty simple work, and while low in terms of pay per head, it seems fair to me in terms of pay per hour. The international office at our school creates and places the ads, and is the initial and ongoing main contact point for new recruits. If their CVs look ok they are just passed onto me for the English language interview. If they are in country I attend a mock class and give my feedback, again typically takes an hour.
I would be careful about doing too much for too little, although it is also worth keeping in mind that picking up extra responsibilities and doing this kind of work may help you get better positions in the future. |

that is a lot of work for 500 rmb, especially when one considers how much revenue a single foreign teacher generates for a school and how risky hiring can be in this business. not everybody who signs for a certain period lasts for the entire period.
it sounds like you're a higher level employee who only performs these services on behalf of your current employer though. i would probably find a bonus like that acceptable if it were part of a larger pay package and higher position than i currently have.
i'll keep all this in mind when the time comes. thanks. |
