My invitation letter states that it is for single entry, but I would like to be able to travel around Asia a little bit while teaching, so I would like to get a multiple entry visa.

When I submit the documents to the consulate, can I specify that I am applying for multiple entry even though the invitation says otherwise, or is that a surefire way to get my visa application denied?

Your visa is only to get you in the country. Then, your employer will get you a Residence Permit, which you can use to travel in and out of the country to your heart's content.

Ditto.

The invitation letter allows you to apply for the visa. Have you really received your invitation letter?

Ah, that makes a whole lot more sense. Thank you.

I received it today and send in my visa application tomorrow. That's why I was concerned to see it marked as single entry.

Yep. Just mark it single entry.
