Hi friends,

I have an upcoming interview for a position in Jeddah teaching American History (to 11 to 14 year-olds who have poor writing and reading skills) in a school that offers the American High School Diploma program. Since this is my first time in Saudi, I want to be cautious. The offer is:

15,000 Riyals per month, 45,000 for housing (my wife and I), full medical, round-trip flights and Iqama. The person states that it will take about two months after I've arrived to obtain a visa for my wife. The person is sending me a copy of the contract for full details (vacations, etc).

My experience: 4 years teaching civics for a community organization (1 year volunteer; 4 years for hourly wage, but not certified); tutoring Arabic for 2 years at the college level; 2.5 years teaching English with CELTA A grade; and a B.A. in political science.

Thanks so much!

The salary is good ($4000 US per month) and about right given your quals. The housing allowance is more than enough for two people in Jeddah; other bennies are satisfactory as well. Plus, you're both to get iqamas---no Mickey Mouse business visa visit for you. (Sorry, Mickey!)

So far, nothing fishy about it unless there's something you've omitted. You didn't mention the name of the school, but do a search on it for info and reviews to get a feel of what the place might be like.

Good luck with your interview.

The offer you got seems good for an American Diploma Program. The housing allowance is good as well. Seems legit.

Good luck!

The school's name is Alekhaa. The website they gave me is: http://www.alekhaaschools.com . I ran a forum search but no results appeared. A google search gave me this site: http://iflair.us/projects/alekhaschoolsenglish/, which they did not provide to me but it appears to be under construction. The man I talked to said that he works directly for the school, and the school's accreditation is legit. Am I being too paranoid?

Also, would it be more effective to create a new topic to seek info on the school? Thanks!
