Been offered a job in Sohar Uni just under 1500 riyals a month
after accommodation, travel, food and general living costs how much do you normally have left? I would probably live fairly frugally. Any advice please? |

That salary sounds slightly above average for Oman.
A villa/apt costs 150 -200 RO/mo.
If you want to rent a car it should be 160 - 200 RO/mo.
Buying a car is cheaper in the long run. You can buy a nice used car for under 2000 RO, and sell it once you leave.
Utilities should be no more than 20 RO/mo, unless you keep your air con on 24/7.
Food is cheap, especially if you shop at the hyper markets.
In all, with your salary, I could see you comfortably saving at least 600 RO/mo, unless you have lots of debt to pay off back home, or like to go out every night (not that Sohar has a lot of options). |

Carrefour is a popular supermarket in Sohar.
It sells a wide range of products,(as elsewhere in the Middle East).
Carrefours prices can be checked out online.

Does Sohar typically have furnished/semi-furnished apartments for rent? If so, how much does a 1-2 bedroom typically go for? |
