I was wondering how long it takes after accepting an ASAP position to process your visa and be in China.
Generally speaking |

| The only waiting part you do that's out of your control is waiting for the invitation letter to come through your letter box. Get a tracking number on that and you need not worry about how long. |

If your school term begins in the beginning of September, Expect your school to send the letter of invitation at about the end of the second week of July or the first week of August. They won't send it sooner for two reasons:
1. It's a good possibility that no one will be in the office before then.
2. They don't want you to arrive too soon and have nowhere to stay, and they don't want you too arrive early only to have the visa expire before anyone can apply for your residence permit.
Why in h3ll isn't there a sticky on this topic? Every *beep*ing week somebody asks this *beep* *beep* *beep*ing question.
I don't intend to be a *beep*ed *beep* *beep*ing *beep* but somebody should make this a *beep*ing sticky. |

If the school schedule is year-round or if you are needed ASAP before the end of the term, things move faster.
If one is working with a university, college, high school, or any institution that closes for the summer, and one isn't needed until September, one won't be sent an invitation letter until the time period I mentioned for the reasons given.
It makes sense, doesn't it? Please tell me if that makes no sense to you. |

This is the epitome of an atypical situation.
For this to happen they basically they had to go to the office the day you accepted the position with all your nationality, education and medical documents already in hand and had all forms filled out and leave the office the same morning to the bureau. After they got the documents that very day and sent it express international mail. The day you received it you traveled to the Chinese embassy, got your visa and booked the next flight to China.
It might be possible if it was a school in Shanghai owned by the mayor and you lived across the street from the Chinese consulate in New York. Well, I'm not saying your lying, I just don't believe it. |
