We just got a tsunami warning here in Hawaii due to an earthquake north of Japan. It said that people in towns along Japan's Pacific coast were issued evacuation orders to go to higher ground.
Hope you all are all right there and that no tsunami was generated. We are still waiting to hear if we can expect anything.

| Felt the quake here while we were eating lunch. Barely felt it, but it was a fairly long one. No chance of tsunami this far inland, but thought you'd like to know. |

It's been reported that a 10cm tsunami arrived in Nemuro in the north of Hokkaido about 2 hours ago and similar waves were seen in other parts of northern Japan, so we aren't running in panic here in Tokyo.
They are still flashing the warnings on TV and giving information about evacuation, but it seems like it won't be a major one. I'm glad they keep us informed though. |

The warning was just cancelled here, but they still have a high surf warning. Big relief!
Thanks for the info!

| The latest is that a 20cm wave was seen in Nemuro and 40cm in Ogasawara (isolated island chain). Quite a few households have been evacuated in the north but no reports of damage. |
