I'm trying to gather information on how common it is to be offered free tuition at international schools for children of employed foreign teachers. Any experienced folks care to comment?

As far I've seen, it is quite common but I need to negotiate with my wife's current employer on this issue (they only offer 50%) and I'd like to have some details to throw at them from other countries.

Much appreciated...

Most schools provide free schooling for 1 dependent for each parent hired. A minority provide schooling for 2 or more dependents per employee. Whilst an even smaller percentage only provide a discount on school fees. Personally, I would avoid working at schools only offering the latter, unless the discount is substantial (80% or more).

I pay about US$150/term ($300/yr) and that includes co-curricular activities, lunch and field trips.

Books and uniforms are my responsibility.

I work at a bilingual school in Thailand.

When I worked at an English Program in Thailand, it was in my contract that education was free for my children. When it came time for them to enter school, they allowed them to only enter the regular program for free.

Your wife is at a good school (congrats on the wedding!) Maybe they think that the high pay scale makes up for it?

The bilingual school I was at offered free tuition, as did the international school. Both were in Peru. There it seems pretty common to get free tuition. That being said to qualify for free tuition at the international school, you had to be a teacher there for 2 years first.
