Has anyone taught in Yantai? Where did you teach and what was your experience there? Are all the salaries as low as 6,000 - 7,000 rmb? I saw a job posted that met my criteria exactly, but the salary is a lot less than I'd like.
I do want a smaller, more traditional city. Never wanted to work in NYC or LA; don't want to do that in China, although I'm sure I'd enjoy the occasional vacay in Beijing or Shanghai.
Any information you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

i knew someone there making more than 10,000 a month but he was working a lot at a private language school i think. like 8 hours a day
yantai is not a small city. there are 6 or 7 million people that live there.
the weather's pretty good though. and there are some nice beaches (the one across from yantai uni is usually empty) |

| Hi, thanks for the reply. Wish I knew where your friend taught. I'd be happy with 9000 or 10000 yuan with housing and flight. I know Yantai is still large, but half the size of some of the other cities, and appears to have the charm of a smaller, more traditional town. Having not been there, I'm going on online pics and descriptions. If you know of any other coastal towns that aren't megalopolises and have a more traditional feel, please let me know! All best to you. |

OP,
Yantai (Chinese: 烟台; pinyin: Yānti) is a prefecture-level city in northeastern Shandong province.
Salaries are somewhat based on location by perhaps as much as 25% but 75% of the salary is based on the type of position your talking about and the perks/bonuses/allowances included.
That you haven't told us, so anyone giving a reply is just guessing what you are talking about. |

I live in Yantai and work there as a teacher. 7,000 plus accomodation and airfare isn't that bad a deal. You can live well on it in China (in a small city). Remember that is after tax as in China the tax is taken off before you receive your wages.
Why not try the EF school in Yanati, I hear they are recruiting now and at least you will be sure of a legitimate working visa. |
