I cannot seem to locate any concrete information on how to upgrade to diploma-level (TEFLq) status. I already have an MA in ELT, though the teaching practice was not observed. I have CELTA. I have heard that it is possible to be upgraded without going down the DELTA road.
British Council was not much help.

I was told a few years ago that that if an employer who is TEFL-Q observes you for the 5 hours and provides written and oral feedback then the records of this can be kept to prove that you are TEFL-Q. This is assuming you have the MA (which you do).
I was told this by a former boss who ran a large school with teacher training support. This is all I know as I didn't pursue it further. Depending on who your current employer is, it might be worth approaching them or other serious schools you have good contacts with. I suspect it would be difficult to do it outside the UK. But there are advantages for UK schools to have TELF-Qs on staff. Whether that outweighs the hassle on their part is another question...
Hopefully someone else will know more. |
