Hi all,
First, about myself - I'm 31 years old, spent 20-odd years in Canada, and a few in Australia, where I am now (an outback town in the middle of the Northern Territory). I am working on a Permanent Aussie visa, and in the meanwhile am keen to teach for a few months/years. Was sitting on the fence between Thailand and Vietnam, from reading the forums it seems that Vietnam wins on wages, conditions, and lifestyle - I plan to be on the ground towards the end of October.
My motivation for doing this is mostly to challenge myself, see the world, basically get away from what I am beginning to dread which is the 9-to-5 trap where every day is the same and you can see 10 years ahead...Some call it 'unplugging from the matrix', especially matrix geeks like myself. I have some teaching experience, it was something I enjoyed and I look forward to building my experience and confidence. I also have realistic expectations and know that there's a good chance I will ask myself just 'what the !@#$ did I get myself into' on numerous occasions but I believe that if you don't push past your boundaries you will never evolve. Not afraid to put in the hard work, but also look forward to the drinks on the beach
So a few questions:
-Plan is to live on the cheap while looking for work - any recommendations for a bare-bones but reasonably clean accomm in HCMC?
-I'll be happy to shout a few rounds to any teacher willing to show me the ropes after I get here, that's something I will pay forward to the newbs following me (I know with the price of beer this is a largely symbolic gesture)...
-Given my situation below, what is a reasonable monthly wage/salary?
- Master of business and Commerce, Bachelor of Aviation
- ONLINE ICAL TESL (I know, done for my own benefit)
- Canadian and EU passports (born in Poland, arrived in Canada at 10 years old)
- taking the IELTS next month, federal police check is in the works
- Some teaching experience (I was a Flight Instructor and taught ground and flying - 17-18 year olds, ground subjects such as met, nav, aero engines)
Cheers! |
