Hello
I've spent over 13 years teaching full time in Japanese University and 4 years in Korea.

I'm thinking about accepting an offer from a big oil company teaching their employees. But I see that most some Universities pay more (Correct me if I'm wrong but it appears that 43,000 US dollars per year is the norm with the big oil companies).

Also, many university jobs show 60 days for holiday, not 30 days.

For someone with an MA in TESOL, which would typically be a better situation in Saudi? Finding a university program to teach at which is run well or teaching with the Oil Company?

Thanks for your suggestions.
I've never been to the Kingdom so I appreciate the help for a newbie.

I wouldn't restrict myself to Saudi, I would also look at jobs in the UAE. In the UAE, the money can be as high and the living conditions are easier to deal with...

What the best university jobs are looking for is experience teaching Academic English with emphasis on reading and writing (which are the weak skills for Arab learners)

Direct hire with ARAMCO pays more than universities. Universities are MUCH better than contractors supplying teachers to ARAMCO.

Of the unis, KFUPM is still the best.

Thank you veiledsentiments

Are direct hires with SARAMCO still taking place? I've been reading they do all their hiring through recruiters now.

I'm assuming you do a direct hire by first taking a job in Saudi and then interviewing there?

You have to kind of "luck in" to the direct hire jobs. They are rarely available... are VERY competitive... (needs high credentials, significant experience, and no health issues) because they pay significantly better than the recruiter jobs and you get to live on the fancy ARAMCO compound rather than scrambling for not so great housing.

It's that time again--Aramco have their recruiting team in London interviewing 14 Sept. - 22 Sept. Unless they're offering US$5000-6000 per month, forget it. That money is better than KFPUM, but perhaps you wouldn't have such a rewarding work experience? Haha!

VERY FEW jobs are direct with Saudi ARAMCO now. Better to buy a lottery ticvket - or go to KFUPM and reconcile yourself to poverty.

Incidentally I have nere seen the acronym SARAMCO. It is either ARAMCO or Saudi ARAMCO.
