|
|
Hi,
I was wondering whether any university opening will come up anytime soon from people who accepted jobs, but won't turn up in China?
I'm a native speaker, UK citizen, have a bachelors degree and I'm CELTA qualified, but with no real experience.
I'm ready to apply for a visa now and come straight out to China if that helps.
I already have a job offer for Turkey, but visa issues probably means its not for me. I've also been accepted before at an EF school in China, but turned it down due to not wanting to work a 40 hour week in a 'slave factory' (How a friend described it I should add!).
My ideal job would probably be no more than 20 teaching hours per week. Single accommodation + 5500RMB + Flight allowance. Or equivalent as 5500RMB plus a 10,000RMB flight allowance is worse to me than 6500RMB per month with no allowance.
It doesn't really matter if its not a university, any job that didn't require non-stop work would be good for me.
Thanks |

Yes. I can't tell you WHERE, but it will happen. Start applying, you'll get something. |

I recently saw ads from a uni in Hunan and from a private uni in Guangdong needing teachers on this site. Search the job ads on Dave's. And go to the other EFL sites as well. Universities web pages and contact information can often be found through links in Wikipedia articles on Chinese cities and provinces. Many unis merit their own wikipedia entries. It takes some work sometimes to get current contacts.
Angelina's ESL recruiters have been known to bait and switch job-seekers from well-known areas popular with foreigners to out-of-the-way schools. But they would most likely have lots of lesser-known schools (maybe a few gems in the mix) who are still looking for teachers. That's a good bet if you aren't too picky about location and have illusions of teaching in "the Real China."
Chinatefl dot com also has lots of unis, just be warned that many have complained about their services. They provide direct contact information for the schools, so those services aren't necessary.
Good luck. |

Yes, this last piece of advice [ www.chinatefl.com ]then choose the "teach" link, should be followed up and, as advised, go direct to the school involved. You are very well credentialled and your requirements are around the mark, although some negotiation may be needed. |

Agreed. There will always be no-shows. Pick your city and Uni's and get contact information yourself and directly apply. I would NEVER use an agency again. I was burned a few times by them and never again. |

It's a bit late but there will still be gigs available.
Probably not the best locations though.
Seriousteachers.com is another board to look on.
Re airfare - if it's cash neutral no harm in raising the issue.

PS Avoid any suggestion that you may not stay the distance.
The airfare payout is a completion bonus as well as reimbursing your fares. |
